Teach your passion or area of expertise as a Create-a-Class Instructor! Work with YLC staff members to develop an organized curriculum of fun and educational activities surrounding your topic of choice. Past examples of volunteer-led classes include weekly lessons in finance, science, interior design, drama, and gardening. YLC's state-of-the-art facility and wonderful resources allow for endless possibilities of what you can share.
Minimum commitment: At least one hour per week for an 8-week cycle
Possible Volunteer Times: 5:00pm - 6:30pm, Monday - Friday
Interact with our young people by volunteering time to have fun with them under the supervision of YLC staff! Play (and teach) board games, play sports in our gymnasium, or find other fun ways to engage our students and to show them that you care about their interests.

Volunteering as a Homework Helper is an excellent chance to aid various students in a range of subjects. Homework Helpers provide assistance to students needing help with homework and with YLC math/language arts assignments, or help in other programming areas. Homework Helpers work with YLC teachers to learn the Study Island program, and to use effective tools to help students improve their achievement in math, language arts, and other academic areas.
Minimum commitment: At least one hour per week for an 8-week cycle:

Be a part of the YLC Volunteer Team by acting as a Library Book Ambassador!! YLC is in need of new books for our library and we need volunteers like you from all around the St. Louis area to host collections at your place of work, your school, or other institutions you are affiliated with. YLC will supply your book collection site(s) with receptacles for donated books. Desired books should be age appropriate (for 1st-8th grade students) and should be new or only slightly used. Help build the knowledge banks of our young people by providing them new, high-quality reading material!

Possible Volunteer Times: AYC (At your convenience)!
At your own convenience and from the comfort of your own computer, volunteer your skills virtually by designing YLC t-shirts, flyers, posters, etc. YLC staff members will supply you with the general content for the materials needed, but the creative design will be left up to you. Experience with Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and other design programs is preferred.

Help make reading a more enjoyable experience for our young people by becoming a YLC Reading Buddy. Read aloud to and with a child, and complete various fun literacy activities. Reading Buddies work with YLC teachers to learn the Study Island program, and to use effective tools to help students improve their literacy, which is the foundation for future academic success.
Minimum commitment: At least one hour per week for an 8-week cycle
Possible Volunteer Times: 3:30pm - 6:30pm, Monday - Thursday
Engage our youth while accommodating your busy schedule by making a one-time visit to YLC to give a presentation about your company/industry. Help students imagine what it's like to be in your profession and motivate them to reach their educational and occupational goals.

Invite a group of YLC middle school students as guests to your office or place of work during YLC Y-Work Week. Give our students a first-hand glimpse of what it’s like to have your career, and inspire the professionals of tomorrow Past corporate hosts include AT&T, the Boeing Company, Centene Corporation, and Monsanto.
